Low Vision Services
Low vision means that even with regular eyeglasses,
contact lenses, medication or surgery a person finds everyday tasks
difficult. Reading the mail, shopping, cooking watching television and
writing can seem challenging. Low vision affects people of all ages, in
the home, on the job and at school. Family members or friends have a hard
time understanding what someone with low vision can see. For example a
person with Macular Degeneration has a loss of central vision and cannot
see things straight ahead. Someone with Glaucoma has a peripheral field
loss, which affects a person’s side vision.
If you or someone you know experience any of the above
mentioned difficulties, call Miami Lighthouse for a preliminary functional
assessment and a low vision evaluation. Often, there are ways to improve
your quality of life through the correct magnifier, vision training, or
rehabilitation. When you learn how to use the correct low vision devices,
or how to cope with glare, you can reclaim your independence and bring
your world back into focus.
