Low Vision
Services
Low vision means that even with regular eyeglasses, contact lenses, medication or surgery a person finds everyday tasks difficult. Reading the mail, shopping, cooking watching television and writing can seem challenging. Low vision affects people of all ages, in the home, on the job and at school. Family members or friends have a hard time understanding what someone with low vision can see. For example a person with Macular Degeneration has a loss of central vision and cannot see things straight ahead. Someone with Glaucoma has a peripheral field loss, which affects a person’s side vision.
Low Vision Rehabilitation may help a person to lead an active lifestyle and maintain independence. The Miami Lighthouse Low Specialist will demonstrate a full range of products from magnifiers, lamps, daily living aids to video magnifiers (cctv’s) and screen magnification for those who are computer savvy. This demonstration is hands-on to assist you in maximizing your remaining vision through training, magnification, lighting and glare control.
